Team Development
Training and skills development to build - and maintain, high performing teams…
Many groups are called ‘teams’ but building and sustaining a high performance team takes energy and skill. So how can you take a collection of individuals and help them to become a high performance team who deliver exceptional results?
We work with different types of teams:
- Executive boards to front-line teams
- New teams (eg post-merger) to well-established groups
- UK, Europe or Global
Typical challenges teams can face...
- Board level teams who need to build trust and deal effectively with organisational ‘politics’
- How to ramp up performance very quickly for teams with a short life span? – eg SAP implementation groups
- Remote working – multi location, function and culture – eg off-shoring
- Work shifting – handing over from team to team across time zones to increase delivery speed
- Teams from different companies-suppliers, clients, partners- even competitors who still need to work well together
- A breakdown of trust in team working which has a major impact on results
- Keeping a high performance team motivated in the longer term
- Bringing in new people – even a new leader – into an existing team
How we do it...
We don’t ‘do’ typical ‘team-building’ events. Instead we measurably improve team performance in a number of ways.
- Helping teams define their strategy and goals – perhaps build a shared vision and a pragmatic plan as to how they are going to get there…
- Understand their stakeholders and share ideas for developing effective relationships
- Use of personality models (eg INSIGHTS, MBTI, Belbin) to build a common language and allow team members to see how their colleagues differences are actually strengths – not weaknesses
- Team exercises and activities– such as Peter Senge’s electronic maze – a great metaphor for organisational team working
- Building trust. Making it safe the name the ‘Elephant in the Room’, encouraging key actions and behaviours that deliver high trust, increase speed and reduce cost.
The end result...
It really is worth the effort because a High Performance Team can achieve great results and:
- Go above and beyond what is asked of them
- Everyone takes accountability for the end result
- See new challenges as just another opportunity
- Share know how and expertise within the team and with others
- Use the diversity and talent of team members to excel
- A focus on improvement, pace & quality
- High energy and a sense of togetherness- a ‘can do’ attitude
- High trust even when working remotely (13 behaviours that build Trust)
